Meet Captain Vance Chandler

Office of Operations – North Command

Captain Vance Chandler was born and raised in Southern California and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He competed in high school water polo and swimming and served as an oceanfront lifeguard for the Long Beach Fire Department. Vance continued pursuing his education by attending the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) where he swam competitively for the college and earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology – with an emphasis on Law and Society. While at UC Davis, Vance also earned a minor in Spanish and studied abroad at the University of Mexico where he learned to read, write, and speak Spanish, and completed an extensive research project on a double-murder case that occurred in Mexico City.

Vance has served as a Patrol Officer, Problem Oriented Policing Officer in Oak Park, Special Weapons and Tactics Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Sergeant of the Public Information Office, Patrol Watch Commander, Executive Lieutenant out of the South Command, Lieutenant of the Training, Research and Development Division and he now serves as a Police Captain. As an auxiliary assignment, Vance was a member of the Sacramento Police Department Honor Guard for fifteen years.

Vance is the recipient of two Unit Citations and the Distinguished Service Award. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Vance is a committed and proud father of three incredible children and a dedicated husband to his beautiful and always supportive wife.
