James Harrington
Meet Captain James Harrington
Office of Special Services – Support Services
Captain James Harrington began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2002. He is currently assigned as Captain of our Support Services, which include our Records Division and Communications Division. He previously served as Captain of our East Command. He has also been a Watch Commander for East and South Commands, and has worked as a detective, in Crime Scene Investigations, Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, and as a member of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
James is a U.S. Army Veteran and has also served as an adjunct professor of Emergency Services Management. He is a graduate of Boston University with a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. He has completed Senior Management for Police-by-Police Executive Research Forum, the POST Executive Development Course, and holds a POST Management Certificate.

James was drawn to a career with the Sacramento Police Department to serve his community and keep people safe, including his own family here in his hometown.
