Meet Deputy Chief Dan Monk

Office of Specialized Services

Deputy Chief Dan Monk began his career at the Sacramento Police Department in 2000 as a volunteer. After attending the Sacramento Police Academy, he held assignments in Patrol, POP, Felony Assaults, and Homicide. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2007, and worked assignments in Patrol, Financial Crimes, Neighborhood Crimes, Felony Assaults, and Internal Affairs.

Dan was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014 and held assignments as a Patrol Watch Commander and as an Executive Lieutenant. In 2018, Dan was promoted to Captain. He was assigned to the Support Services Division where he oversaw the department’s homeless response, Crime Analysis Unit, Information Technology section, and created a Mental Health Unit.

He was later assigned to the Special Services Division in the Office of the Chief, where he oversaw the Internal Affairs Unit, Public Information Office, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and Volunteer Program. Dan later served as the South Area Commander in the Office of Operations, and led the Metro Division in the Office of Specialized Services. In November 2023, Dan promoted to Deputy Chief and currently oversees the Office of Specialized Services.

Dan earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from California State University, Sacramento. He graduated from California POST Command College, the Sierra Health Foundation’s Leadership Program, and the Sherman Block Supervisor Leadership Institute.
