Stephen Moore

Meet Captain Stephen Moore

Office of Operations – East Command

Captain Stephen Moore began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2004. He is currently assigned as Captain of East Command. He previously served as the Executive Lieutenant of North Command and has also held assignments in Patrol, Motors, the Sacramento Police Academy, and Outreach and Engagement. Stephen has been a member of the Honor Guard since 2006.

Prior to coming to SPD, Stephen served with Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.

Stephen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University and has a master’s degree in Emergency Service Administration from Cal State Long Beach. His professional development classes and certifications include the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), Front Line Leadership, POST Management Course, and Critical Incidents for Supervisors.

He is a POST-Certified Instructor in Defensive Tactics, Physical Training, Firearms, and First Aid/CPR. He is also a CED Instructor and a FEMA-certified Mobile Field Force Instructor.

Stephen’s department awards include a Bronze Medal of Valor and Employee of the Quarter. Two of his proudest achievements have been his contribution to a youth diversion program in collaboration with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and his part of the effort to modernize our recruiting program.

Despite getting a degree in engineering, Stephen realized he wanted a career where he made a difference, was part of a team and got to experience something new every day. He liked the size and diversity of the City of Sacramento and the number of units available within the department. Having co-workers who are intelligent and hardworking is why he loves this organization and its members.
