The Front Street Animal Shelter is waiving the adoption fee for all dogs. This adoption special is good through Sunday, August 24.

Come and visit the Front Street Animal Shelter

2127 Front Street, Sacramento CA 95818

Open 7 days a week from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

  1. Visit the shelter or view the animals online to find one you'd like to meet.
  2. Join our electronic waitlist using your phone and follow the instructions on signs in front of and throughout the shelter.
  3. Waitlist opens at 11:30 am and you must be at the shelter to join.
  4. Customers will be helped in the order they join the waitlist. If you need assistance adding yourself to the waitlist, ask our front desk staff for help.
  5. We recommend having more than one animal you're interested in meeting, in case your first choice is adopted by someone ahead of you in line.
  6. We are not able to facilitate meetings between owned dogs and adoptable dogs at this time. We can, however, make recommendations and give instructions for good introductions.
  7. Many of our adoptable animals are in foster care. Click on their photo to apply and be connected with their foster family!

Adopt a pet for hospice care

Some of our animals struggle to get adopted because they don't have much time left due to their age or medical conditions. That’s why we have started the AdoptUs program, a hospice adoption program for shelter pets.

Home To Home

Home To Home is an online pet placement platform that helps pet owners find new temporary or permanent homes for their pets. Pets that need a new home do best if they can be transitioned directly from their current home to a new, loving home and avoid the stress of a stay at an animal shelter.

Hill's Food, Shelter and Love

The Front Street Animal Shelter is proud to partner with Hill's Pet Food. Hill's Food, Shelter and Love program has helped millions of pets find new homes, has provided millions more in science-led nutrition to pets in needs, and support hundreds of animal shelters across North America.
