The Front Street Animal Shelter is located at 2127 Front Street (with a cross-street of Broadway) and is open 7 days a week from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Walk-ins are welcomed. No appointment needed.

The Main Building is located next to the parking lot and provides services to those who wish to adopt a pet, search for their lost pet, and license their pet. The Reception Center is a short walk up the sidewalk and provides services to those who are bringing in a stray animal.

Our mission

Protect, preserve, and enhance the quality of life for both animals and people by strengthening the human-animal bond

Our vision

A community where care and resources are accessible for all animals

Our values

Compassionate, Collaborative, Inclusive, Innovative, and Transparent

The Front Street Animal Shelter does far more than caring for lost and abandoned animals in our community. We provide a variety of services that protect both citizens and animals, including:

  • Transporting sick or injured stray animals that were picked up by the animal services officers to the emergency vet
  • Rescuing animals locked inside hot vehicles and from abusive, cruel, or negligent conditions
  • Assisting stray dogs, whether they are friendly or aggressive, that roam freely on the street, on public property, or at a citizen's residence
  • Administering a rabies control program
  • Helping citizens resolve nuisance problems, such as dogs barking excessively and dogs defecating or urinating on other people's property
  • Investigating dog and cat bite complaints
  • Assisting other agencies such as County of Sacramento Animal Care and Regulation, Sacramento SPCA, Sacramento Police, Sacramento Fire, and California Highway Patrol
  • Educating pet owners on the importance of spaying or neutering their dogs and cats

In partnership with our community, we keep lost pets safe so that they can hopefully be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.
