General collection guidelines

Please follow the below guidelines when placing your containers out for collection:

  • Avoid over stacking and make sure lids are completely closed.
  •  Crush and flatten materials for more space.
  •  Place containers at the curb by 6:00am on collection day.
  •  Place containers three feet apart (if possible) and away from any obstructions.
  •  Please do not contaminate organic waste recycling or mixed recycling with garbage.
  •  Please never bag mixed recyclables: keep bottles, cans, etc., loose in the bin.
  • Keep containers away from storm drains and out of bike lanes whenever possible.
  • Downtown/midtown: Whenever possible, residents in restricted parking zones should place containers on the curb and not in the street or gutter
  • Containers should be out for service no earlier than twelve hours before your collection day, and should be returned to the storage area on your property within twelve hours of collection.
  • Storage locations must be within or behind a structure building, fence, landscaping or other barrier that substantially screens the containers from the street or public right-of-way. Storage of containers immediately adjacent to a residential building, even if in view, is acceptable placement.
