The Fire Prevention Division, Development Services unit, provides inspection and plan review of all new, repaired, or replaced fire protection systems requiring a building permit and projects dealing with fire department access and water supply.

The Public Counter is located on the 3rd floor at 300 Richards Blvd. in Sacramento and is open to the public for limited in-person appointments for planning questions and minor building permit needs. For more information and to make an appointment, please visit the Appointment Scheduling page

Inspections

The Sacramento Fire Department inspects buildings for compliance with code requirements and scope of work in accordance with building permits. All construction work requiring a building permit must be inspected and remain accessible for inspection until approved by the inspector. A set of approved and signed plans (stamped "APPROVED") are required to be on site for each inspection.

It is the property owner's responsibility to make sure that all required inspections are made on a project, including both in-progress inspections and the final inspection. The contractor, however, may schedule the inspections and be the one on-site contact for each one.

Scheduling an inspection

If you have questions, you can contact your inspector directly, or you can visit our Inspection Status page for up-to-date information on scheduled inspections, your inspector's name and cell phone number.

Inspection requests can be made 24 hours a day by phone or online. Requests made before 6:00 p.m. will be scheduled for the following work day. Requests made after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends or holidays will be scheduled two working days later. Inspections may be pushed to the next available business day due to high volume.
