Meter Replacement Project
The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities maintains over 150,000 water meters, which are required by state law.
Many of these meters are aging and will need to be replaced. The City has a water meter replacement program, prioritizing non-functioning and age-based replacements in accordance with American Water Works Association (AWWA) guidelines. Due to an identified issue with the equipment adjacent to some water meters there may have been errors in the way meter reads were transmitted through the remote read system. If your meter is part of this affected population, and there was an error in transmission, this resulted in the utility account being undercharged or overcharged. You would see this discrepancy reflected as a credit or amount owed on your bill.
If you owe an additional balance, we are required to bill for this discrepancy by Sacramento City Code and CA Proposition 218. We have payment arrangements available for affected customers. Please contact Customer Service at (916) 808-5454 for questions about payment arrangements.
For questions, please call 311.
