Similar to Civic Engagement unit’s flagship program, Summer at City Hall, this program will be a more condensed version and open to all high school students who may not have the opportunity to participate during the summer. Semester at City Hall is 6-week civic engagement program for high school students city-wide during the Spring and Fall. The program is highly participatory and engages youth in topics around federal and local government, leadership, activism, equity, policy, and more. Moreover, students will participate in their own learning by working together in small cohorts to complete a research project on a topic that is most important to them and other youth in their community. After, they will present their project and research findings to one of the City’s various Commissions.
This program is great for youth who are interested in government, politics, leadership, or students who are interested in learning more about what the city does and are interested in meeting other young people throughout the city. The program is open to all high school students. The only eligibility requirement is that students live or go to school within the Sacramento City Limits.
The Semester @ City Hall program (Sem@CH) is a six-week program with regular instructional classroom sessions on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:30pm.
