Meet Deputy Chief Bryce Heinlein
Office of Specialized Services
Deputy Chief Bryce Heinlein began his law enforcement career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2000. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief over the Office of Specialized Services. His previous leadership roles include serving as the Captain of Personnel, the Metro Division and as the Central City Commander.
Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Heinlein has held a variety of operational and investigative assignments. As an officer, he worked in Patrol, the Downtown Bike Unit, as a Field Training Officer and the Downtown Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit. He also served as a detective in the Robbery/Burglary, Felony Assaults, and Homicide units.
Following his promotion to Sergeant, he was assigned to Patrol and the Public Information Office. As a Lieutenant, he served as a Patrol Watch Commander and was later assigned to the Major Crimes Division within Investigations.

Before joining the Sacramento Police Department, Deputy Chief Heinlein worked for the El Dorado County Probation Department.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento. He has earned POST Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management certificates, and is a graduate of the POST Management Course (2016). His executive development training includes the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (Class 409), the POST Executive Development Course, the Executive Development Institute at the Drucker School of Management and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. (Class 288)
Deputy Chief Heinlein is actively involved in the community and volunteers with several local organizations. He recently served as a board member for the Sacramento Police-Sheriff Memorial Foundation.
He is a recipient of the Sacramento Police Department Unit Citation.
