Sean Cunningham
Office of Operations - South Command
Lieutenant Sean Cunningham started his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2006. As an officer, Sean has worked as a patrol officer, field training officer, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officer.
Sean was promoted to sergeant in 2020 and worked supervisory assignments in Patrol, the Advanced Officer Training Team, the Department's Rangemaster, and the Professional Standards Unit. In 2024 Sean was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and started as the graveyard Watch Commander working out of the Central Command. He is currently the Executive Lieutenant of our South Command.
Sean has been awarded a Unit Citation for his work with the SWAT team as well as Employee of the Quarter.
Sean graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento. Before becoming a police officer, Sean was a union carpenter.

When not working, Sean enjoys spending time with his family and friends and attending sporting events.
