Check out the first Sacramento 2040 newsletter below! You can also download the issue as a PDF. The purpose of this newsletter is to share with you what the Sacramento 2040 team has accomplished since beginning the General Plan Update (GPU) and Climate Action Plan effort in March 2019.

Citywide visioning workshops (April 2019)

The City of Sacramento hosted three citywide workshops to kick-off Sacramento 2040, the General Plan Update and Climate Action Plan. The workshops were held on:

  • Monday, April 22, 2019 at Hagginwood Community Center
  • Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center
  • Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Oak Park Community Center.

All three meetings were held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and in total, more than 500 community members attended. Below are summary materials for all the workshops.

Community plan area meetings (June - August 2019)

The Sacramento General Plan includes 10 Community Plans that address local issues and opportunities across the City. These plans supplement citywide General Plan policy based on conditions or issues that are unique to each specific area.

The City of Sacramento held events from June through August of 2019 for residents and community members in each area to inform the update of their Community Plan. Below is a list of all community plan area meetings held during this time, and each meeting's corresponding presentation. The project team is developing a comprehensive summary of all the meetings, which will be posted to this page when complete.

Meeting-In-A-Box (Phase 1 | June - September 2019)

Meeting-in-a-Box is a community engagement toolkit designed for use by community groups, neighborhood associations, or friends to gather at a convenient time and location to share their ideas and proposals for the future of the city. A complete guide and video was available on the City of Sacramento General Plan Update project website for anyone to download and use from June 1 to September 20. These materials are available below for reference.

Pop-up workshops series (Phase 1 | August - September 2019)

The City of Sacramento hosted six pop-up workshops to supplement outreach from the three prior Citywide Workshops and obtain input from hard-to-reach communities. The workshops were held on:

  • Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at National Night Out
  • Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Valley Mack Farmer's Market
  • Friday, September 6, 2019 at the District 6 Movie Night & Resource Fair
  • Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Grocery Outlet and Bargain Market on Del Paso Boulevard
  • Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Festival Latino
  • Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Hmong Youth and Parents United Health Fair

In total, more than 150 community members participated. Below are summary materials for all the workshops.

Interest-based focus group meeting

On December 4, 2019, the City of Sacramento held a Focus Group Meeting to discuss strategies to improve neighborhood livability and create a range of housing options as part of the Sacramento 2040 General Plan Update and Climate Action Plan. A summary of the meeting is available for download.

Notice of preperation (October - November 2019)

The City has issued a Revised Notice of Preparation (NOP) of a Master Environmental Impact Report (MEIR) for the City of Sacramento 2040 General Plan Update and Climate Action Plan. The Revised NOP is available on the City’s Community Development Department web page.
