I went to the FEC because I was struggling with overbearing credit card debt. I knew that I had to get out of debt, but I didn’t know how or even where to start. It was difficult to make a plan.
Since coming to the FEC, I have slowly started repaying my credit cards and getting rid of debt. My credit score has gone up as well. I have built an emergency fund of $1,000 and have made a plan to pay even more towards my debts.
The FEC has made a huge difference in my financial future, because I have been learning about how credit and debt work and how I can stay out of debt in the future. Also, working with my FEC coach, I have been able to be more confident in my financial decisions and remove the shame and stigma of asking for help, especially for financial hardships. I would tell my friends and family that this is a great resource to use in our community. I was a little skeptical myself, because talking about money and finances is sometimes stressful and can be very intimidating, but my financial coach made it so easy to talk about. She explained everything thoroughly and encouraged me to take steps towards reducing debt and building my credit.
Yes, I do plan to keep working with my FEC coach towards my financial goals. My goal is to pay off all my credit card debt and see how that will improve my credit score. I think that my FEC coach has helped me a lot with giving me a little homework that I can do in between our sessions that helps me work towards my goals. This has made the daunting tasks become easier and I am more likely to achieve them. I really appreciate her for being so supportive, understanding and encouraging throughout this process.
