Outdoor Rebates

The Department of Utilities offers several types of rebates for outside the home or business to help customers save water and money.

  • Grass Conversions - Up to $3,000 to convert grass to drought-tolerant landscapes
  • Irrigation Upgrades - Up to $800 to upgrade irrigation systems
  • Rain Barrels - Up to $150 for rain barrels
  • Laundry-to-Landscape - Up to $150 toward laundry-to-landscape systems

General Requirements

The following are general requirements that apply to most or all water-saving rebates:

  • Rebates are available to City of Sacramento water customers only.
  • Applicants must be property owners or bill-paying tenants with written consent from the property owner.
  • Rebates and applications are not retroactive.
  • Certain rebates require a pre-qualification visit and approval from Water Conservation Staff before installation.
  • All eligible work must be completed within the timeline specified in the rebate terms and conditions.
  • After installation, Water Conservation staff will visit the site and verify as part of post-inspection.
  • Once you have the approval from staff, receipt of checks can take as long as 90 days from the day of approval.
  • The value of any rebate may be subject to state and federal taxation. Participants may wish to consult with a tax professional about possible tax liability.
