Leak Repair Rebates

The Department of Utilities provides reimbursement for repairing leaks, which can reduce water bills.

City of Sacramento water customers who are homeowners or tenants of residential single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes and have a verified, continuous leak can apply.

Find out how much water your property is using.

Eligible customers can be reimbursed $250 - $500, including the cost of materials, private leak detection services if needed, leak repair, and up to $150 per hour of licensed contractor labor.

Detailed invoices must account for all materials and hours worked/billed.

If the leak is less than 25 gallons per hour, the maximum rebate is $250.

If it is 25 gallons per hour or larger, then the rebate may be up to $500.

How to apply

  1. You must submit an application before completing repairs.
If you are a tenant, email waterconservation@cityofsacramento.org to coordinate landlord permission.
Water Conservation staff verify all leaks before approving an application.
  2. Complete your leak repairs. A “C-36” licensed plumbing contractor is required for hourly labor reimbursement.
It is recommended to get multiple quotes and check references when looking for a licensed plumber.
  3. Submit your receipts within 30 days of repair to waterconservation@cityofsacramento.org.

The City will verify all receipts, and if approved, checks are usually issued within 120 days to the customer who paid for the repair as shown on receipts.
