Summary
On April 11, 2020 at approximately 3:38 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) was notified by the Marysville Police Department to be on the lookout for a suspect wanted for attempted homicide with a firearm. At approximately 4:38 p.m. that same day, SPD officers located the male adult suspect in a vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 7400 block of West Stockton Boulevard when the suspect opened the driver’s side door and exchanged gunfire with officers. The suspect was injured as a result.
Officers safely detained the suspect and began to render medical aid. Sacramento Fire Department (SFD) personnel arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect survived his injuries. No officers were injured during the shooting. The suspect’s firearm was recovered on scene.
Audio and video releases
This incident falls under the City Council policy on Police Use of Force. The Police Department releases material to provide information quickly to our community.
On April 20, 2020 SPD released initial footage from this shooting. The material consists of two (2) body-worn-camera (BWC) and two (2) in-car-camera (ICC) videos. These videos capture the two primary officers involved in the incident and shows their initial response. The video ends when the suspect is transported by SFD personnel to a local hospital.
Additional video from this shooting was also released in accordance with the City Council policy on Police Use of Force. This secondary release of video and audio material consists 106 items in total, including: 36 in-car camera (ICC) videos, 53 body-worn camera (BWC) videos, five (5) 9-1-1 audio files, one (1) dispatch radio audio file, nine (9) surveillance videos from local area businesses, and 2 videos from SPD's air support helicopter.
All audio and video released has been redacted to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of those involved. The faces and/or identifying materials have been blurred, and audio redactions are signified by muted audio with no accompanying sound.

Status and released records
This incident is being investigated by the Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs Division. A response and investigation into the incident will also be conducted by the Force Investigation Team. The investigation will focus on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to the use of force. The Office of Public Safety Accountability and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office are providing oversight by monitoring the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation. The Sacramento Police Department is committed to transparency and additional records will be released as the investigation progresses.
