On May 13, 2025, at 9:03 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department Communication Center received a call of a man brandishing a firearm near North 16th Street and North B Street. The caller reported that the suspect was walking in the street, waving a handgun in the air and pointing it at people. At 9:08 a.m. the same individual called dispatch again to report that the suspect was now walking northbound in the street near the 200 block of North 16th Street.
A Sacramento Police officer arrived on scene at 9:13 a.m. and located the suspect. Two additional officers arrived shortly thereafter. Officers observed what appeared to be a firearm in the suspect’s pocket. Officers gave the suspect multiple commands to not reach for the firearm and to get onto the sidewalk. The suspect did not comply with the officer’s orders and continued to advance toward the officers while telling them to shoot him. Officers retreated while giving the suspect commands to stop walking toward them. The suspect continued walking toward officers and withdrew the firearm from his pocket. During this time an officer-involved shooting occurred. Three officers fired their handguns, and the suspect was struck. After the officer-involved shooting, officers removed the firearm from the suspect’s right hand and quickly rendered emergency medical aid to the suspect.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. After receiving medical treatment, he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple charges, including brandishing an imitation firearm and resisting arrest.
Officers recovered the firearm from the suspect. After investigators examined the weapon, it was determined to be an imitation firearm.
