Batteries and E-waste

Batteries and e-waste are not allowed in your garbage or recycle containers and need to be treated as household hazardous waste (HHW). There are several options for handling both types of items.

E-waste and battery drop-off at local HHW facilities

Both batteries and e-waste can be dropped off at a local HHW Facility. Battery drop-off is free. There may be fees for small and medium e-waste (Cell phones, printers, stereos, etc.)

Rechargeable battery take back options

By California law, retailers that sell small, non-vehicular rechargeable batteries must provide consumers with a free system for returning these batteries for reuse, recycling or proper disposal.  Call2Recycle is the State program that will help you find a location to return your rechargable batteries.

Single-use battery (only) recycling

The battery recycling drop-off locations listed below are free to City of Sacramento residential customers and apply only to household batteries that are generated at your residence (no business waste).

Please call ahead to check your Community Center's hours of operation.

Batteries collection containers are usually clear tubes, labled for battery recycling and located near the information desk.
