The City of Sacramento’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Blueprint Implementation Project is increasing equitable access to high-impact electric vehicle and e-mobility infrastructure and programs in our historically disadvantaged communities. The project includes deployment of electric vehicle charging equipment, operation of an e-bike lending program, electric vehicle carshare, and monitoring to evaluate the success of the equity components of the project.
This pilot program was made possible through EV Ready Community Challenge Phase 2 funding from the California Energy Commission, and support from the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, and the Sacramento Public Library.
A total of 66 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers have been installed at 13 sites to provide convenient access for residents who may have challenges charging at their home or work:
The City is working in partnership with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) to expand their Our Community Car Share Program (OCCS) . Income-qualified residents near site locations will be able to reserve OCCS-branded electric vehicles provided by Zipcar for personal errands at a discounted rate. The goal is to enhance mobility for households with limited options as well as to introduce residents to the benefits and ease of driving electric.
Vehicles are available at:
Pedal-assisted electric bicycles (e-bikes) offer low-cost, energy efficient, and emission-free transportation - and physical and health benefits to riders! These e-bicycles also allow users to travel at speeds faster – with less effort – than a traditional bicycle, thereby extending distances and decreasing travel time.
In partnership with the Sacramento Public Library, the City has launched an e-bike lending program. Library patrons must be at least 18 years old with a valid library card to check-out an e-bike for personal use at no charge for 1 week.
The program is a great way to try out an e-bike and see if they are right for you as an alternative for short local trips!
Bike lending is available at five Sacramento Public Library locations:
There will be an equity analysis on the City of Sacramento’s Electric Vehicle Blueprint Strategy. A dashboard evaluating the metrics and goals of the EV Blueprint projects on key indicators of equity will be coming soon.
