History
The park name and park master plan were approved by the City council on May 18, 2021. The proposed 3.79-acre neighborhood park is in the Parkebridge development of South Natomas. The park includes a children’s farm-themed playground with swings and themed play items, a basketball court, open turf area for a bantam soccer field, two turf volleyball courts, a group picnic area with shade structure, a games area with table tennis and two cornhole games, concrete pathways, masonry sound wall, large canopy shade trees and season color trees, a park name sign, drinking fountain and site furniture.
Fong Ranch Park is named after Fong Ranch, a 360-acre farm, previously located on the park site and the surrounding area since 1925. The Fongs, a Chinese American family, purchased and farmed the land, located at the southwest corner at Truxel and San Juan Roads. The Fong Ranch grew alfalfa, tomatoes, sugar beets, grains, mainly for canneries. Natomas at the time was nothing but farmland, with large farming operations with over two-hundred-acre farm. The Fong Ranch legacy is one of the strong family ties, entrepreneurial experience, teaching family values in the Chinses traditions, education, and the dream of coming to the Gold Mountain.
The park opened to the public on March 22, 2024.
