Two free appointments per year for customers

All residential customers can schedule two appointments - between February and October - for the free pickup of acceptable bulky items, including excess yard waste.
  • Appointments may be scheduled by the residential collection service customer, including tenants of rental premises such as single-family homes and duplexes
  • If an appointment is scheduled and not canceled by 5:00pm two (2) business days before the pickup date, the customer's account will be charged for one free pickup.
  • If the customer has already used their two free pickups, they may be charged a fee for the canceled pickup.
  • Material must be placed out for collection by 6:00 AM on the scheduled appointment day.
  • Materials should be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. Early set-outs may result in a fine.
  • All cancellations or reschedule requests should be made by 5:00pm two business days prior to the scheduled appointment date. Failure to cancel may result in a charge for additional appointments during the calendar year. Please note, if an appointment is scheduled and not canceled before the pickup date, the customer's account will be charged for one free pickup.
  • If the customer has already used their two free pickups, they may be charged a fee for the canceled pickup.
  • Review the Household Junk Pickup Guidelines.

Appliances and e-waste require a separate appointment.

Tenants of multi-family residences with five or more units, who are not serviced by the City of Sacramento's solid waste collection, will need to contact their landlord, property management, and/or commercial hauler to arrange a junk pickup.

Appliances and household junk will most likely be picked up on different days, which may not be your standard collection day. If you plan to schedule both at the same time, please make an appintment for each sepearately.

  • Free Household Junk Pickup occurs from February through October, with appointments no longer being accepted in mid- to late-October to accommodate leaf season

Pile placement

  • Place pile six feet away from parked vehicles.
  • Pile must be on the public street. Do not place in an alley, driveway or on the curb.
  • Do not block sidewalks or streets.
  • Yard waste is accepted but cannot be mixed with trash. This helps the transfer station divert yard waste for recycling. If both yard waste and bulky debris are being set out, there must be clear separation between the yard waste and junk.
  • The pile size must remain with the 4' X 4 'X 9' (four feet by four feet by nine feet) size limit.
