Urban Biking and Scooting 101 Class

The Transportation Planning team is bringing free Urban Biking & Scooting 101 classes to your neighborhood this Summer! Scroll to find out more and sign up.

The Urban Bicycling and Scooting 101 Class is a great introduction or refresher for people who bicycle and scoot on-street in Sacramento. This class also meets the requirements for the Sidewalk Bicycling Diversion Program*.

We offer both virtual and in-person classes. In the class, you will learn:

  • Bicycling/scooting and the law
  • Bicycling/scooting on the street
  • Traveling through intersections
  • Avoiding crashes
  • How to enjoy the ride

Classes are free and held monthly. You do not need a bicycle or scooter to participate.

*This class may not meet the requirements for E-bike ticket diversion programs. Please email us for more information.

This Summer: Attend an In-Person Class

This Summer 2026, the Transportation Planning team is bringing the free Urban Biking & Scooting 101 class to your neighborhood! From May through August, join us for a monthly evening of learning and ride away confidently with some City of Sacramento bicycle swag. You do not need a bicycle or scooter to participate.

In-Person Class Dates and Locations

May Class

  • Date / Time: Thursday, May 7 at 5:30pm-6:30pm
  • Location: Sacramento City Hall, 915 I Street
  • Register here

Attend a Virtual Class

Virtual, online classes are offered the second Tuesday of every month; you can register for upcoming classes below.
