Florin Road Vision Zero Rehabilitation
Project description
The Florin Road Vision Zero Rehabilitation Project is the first phase of the ultimate Florin Road Vision Zero Safety Project. This project will rehabilitate pavement on a one-mile section of Florin Road, from 24th Street to Munson Way, and install complete street improvements consistent with the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan and Vision Zero Top 5 Corridors Plan. The pavement rehabilitation will include pavement grinding, base repair, and overlay. Complete street improvements include bicycle lane striping, curb ramp upgrades, sidewalk reconstruction, minor signal modifications (loop detectors, video detection), median curb reconstruction, utility adjustments, drainage modifications, and crosswalk enhancements. No widening of the roadway will be required.
Benefits
Florin Road between 24th Street and Munson Way was identified in the Vision Zero Action Plan as one of the City’s top five high injury corridors. Between 2009 and 2017, 16 crashes within the project’s limits resulted in a fatality or severe injury, eight of which involved a person walking or biking. The Florin Road Vision Zero Rehabilitation Project will address this collision history by slowing down automobile traffic, modernizing signal equipment, improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities while bringing the pavement to a good state of repair.
Cost and funding
The estimated total project cost is $6.4 million. The project is funded by the Senate Bill 1 – Local Partnership Formulaic program and local Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account Funds.
Schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2025.
