The City of Sacramento is excited to announce the development of the 9th Street Separated Bikeway Project, made possible through funding from the 2023 Regional Active Transportation Program. This important project will enhance cycling infrastructure in the heart of Sacramento, making the city more bike-friendly and sustainable for residents and visitors alike.
The 9th Street Separated Bikeway will provide a dedicated, safe, and continuous southbound parking-protected Class IV bike lane stretching from Q Street to Broadway. This enhancement to Sacramento's growing network of active transportation options will create a more seamless and comfortable connection for cyclists traveling through the Central City.
The 9th Street Bikeway is a key component of the Central City Mobility Project, which is designed to improve transportation options, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. This project will work in tandem with the 10th Street Separated Bikeway, completing a bike lane couplet and providing a well-defined, bike-friendly route between major commercial corridors like Broadway and R Street.
This protected bike lane project is an important step toward expanding active transportation in Sacramento. By providing dedicated and separated lanes for cyclists, the 9th Street Bikeway will:
The 9th Street Separated Bikeway is just one piece of the broader Central City Mobility Project, a comprehensive initiative to improve the overall transportation landscape in downtown Sacramento. When paired with the existing 10th Street Separated Bikeway, this project will create a clearer and more comfortable route for cyclists traveling to and from Sacramento's vibrant commercial corridors, including Broadway and R Street.
The City of Sacramento is committed to making this project a reality and ensuring that it serves the needs of all cyclists in our community, and we will continue to update you as progress is made. We encourage everyone to share feedback and stay engaged as we work toward a more connected and bike-friendly Sacramento.
Thank you for supporting this exciting step toward a more sustainable and accessible Sacramento! Stay tuned for updates and additional information.
