Sacramento Fire is hiring Paramedics!

The Sacramento Fire Department is now accepting applications for EMTs and Paramedics. This is your chance to join an incredible team dedicated to serving our community with pride, professionalism, and heart.

Apply to become a Sacramento Fire EMT, click here. Applications close March 25, 2026 or when 250 applications have been received.

Apply to become a Sacramento Fire Paramedic, click here. Applications close on March 25, 2026 or when 500 applications have been received.

SFD EMS career info

  • This is a career, full-time, position within the Sacramento Fire Department.
  • We are looking to hire Paramedics and EMT's. 
  • This is NOT a Fire Suppression position, you will not be fighting fires. 
  • Should you choose to move into Fire Suppression, the process is simplified for EMS career employees. 
  • The SFD Single Role ambulances will be deployed out of our Fire Stations. The positions will be 12 hour shifts, with a 3 day on / 3 day off schedule.

Requirements

  • 18 Years or older 
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to work in the US
  • Ability to pass background / medical / psych evaluations Either
  • EMT-P (Paramedic) License or EMT-B (Basic) certification.

EMT and Paramedic salary and benefits

EMT salary range 

$52,922.15 - $64,327.20 Annually

Paramedic salary range

$60,860.46 - $73,976.28 Annually

Salaries above do not include incentives. Stacked incentives will increase compensation.

Retirement - Cal PERS Safety Retirement, PEPRA 2.7% at 57 Represented by Local 522 Fire Union.

Ability to automatically upgrade to Paramedic from EMT.
