Gaining valuable EMS experience

On the job training

This part time job experience, on a SFD ALS ambulance, will support you in first obtaining your EMT Certificate and second your Paramedic License.

If you already have your EMT Certificate, you will only need to obtain your Paramedic License. Once you have completed paramedic school, and successfully obtained your NREMT-Paramedic, you will be eligible for promotion to a fulltime firefighter paramedic position or paramedic single role with SFD.

What you'll experience as an EMS Trainee

About the position

EMS Trainees ride as the third person on a 911-responding ambulance. You'll be delivering patient care at the level of your current EMS certification level. You will be assigned to a fire station, with an ambulance, and experience how the 911-System operates in Sacramento County.
 

You'll be required to work two 8-hour shifts a week on an ambulance and one 4-hour lab for a total of 20-hours per week. Additionally, you will be attending school to earn your EMT certificate or Paramedic license, as well as any approved classes necessary to assist with your success in your pursuit for your Paramedic License.
 

Our Trainees gain valuable experience you won't get anywhere else! They work alongside paid professionals who have a vested interest in their success as they are the future SFD Firefighter-Paramedics.
