Know Before You Go

Here are a few tips for a safe and fun night out.

1. Know your limits:

  • Drink alcohol responsibly and stay hydrated.
  • Never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers.
  • If you plan on drinking, designate a safe and sober driver.

2. Know personal safety precautions:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings and know exits in case of emergencies.
  • Don’t leave with a stranger without telling someone you know.
  • Be a good bystander and intervene if you see harassment.
  • Please report any suspicious activity to Sacramento Police Dispatch at 916-808-5471.

3. Know your venue requirements:

  • Have a travel plan to get home safely.
  • Check license plates before you enter your for-hire vehicle.

5. Know before you park:

  • Reserve parking in advance via SacPark.
  • Park in well-lit areas.
  • Lock your vehicle and keep personal items out of sight.
  • Parking meters on the street only accept payment by card (debit or credit) or the ParkMobile app.

Additional tips:

Parking:

  • Visit www.sacpark.org for information on parking rates and how to reserve parking
  • Park in well-lit areas and note landmarks to remind you where you parked
  • Pay attention to posted street signs and note parking fees or restrictions
  • Don’t leave any valuables or items in plain sight, and lock your car doors

Respond to an overdose:

Know the signs and symptoms of an overdose to help save a life:

  • Call 911 for medical help
  • A person is passed out, and you cannot wake them up
  • They are breathing very slowly or making gurgling sounds
  • Their lips are blue or grayish in color

Watch your belongings:

There’s no need to bring everything you own when going out. To prevent loss, carry an ID, and don’t leave your items, like your phone or bags, unattended. Order your own drinks and don't leave them unattended.

Charge your phone:

Be sure your phone is fully charged before you leave the house, and bring a portable charger or USB plug with you.
