Know Before You Go

Here are a few tips on what to do to have a safe and fun night out.

1. Know your transportation plans:

  • Always share your location so someone knows where you’re going
  • Have a travel plan to get home safely
  • Check license plates before you enter your for-hire vehicle

2. Know your limits:

  • Drink alcohol responsibly and stay hydrated
  • Never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from strangers

3. Know personal safety precautions:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings and know exits in case of emergencies
  • Don’t leave with a stranger without telling someone you know
  • Be a good bystander and intervene if you see harassment

4. Know your venue requirements:

  • Be aware of venue rules and codes
  • Be prepared to have your identification verified or scanned

5. Know before you park:

  • Reserve parking ahead of time via SacPark
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Lock your vehicle and keep personal items out of sight

Additional tips:

Parking:

  • Visit www.sacpark.org for information on parking rates and how to reserve parking
  • Park in well-lit areas and note landmarks to remind you where you parked
  • Pay attention to posted street signs and note parking fees or restrictions
  • Don’t leave any valuables or items in plain sight and lock your car doors

Respond to an overdose:

Know the signs and symptoms of an overdose to help save a life:

  • A person is passed out and you cannot wake them up
  • They are breathing very slowly or making gurgling sounds
  • Their lips are blue or grayish color
  • Call 911 for medical help

Watch your belongings:

There’s no need to bring everything you own when going out. To prevent loss, carry an ID, use a digital app to prove your vax status, and don’t leave your items like phone or bags unattended. Order your own drinks and don't leave them unattended.

Charge your phone:

Be sure your phone is fully charged before you leave the house and bring a portable charger or USB plug with you.
