Overview

The City of Sacramento is working to expand access to electric vehicles and electric bikes in our historically disadvantaged communities. We want to hear from you about how to make sure community members know about these important projects that are coming to your neighborhoods. Below are some of the initial projects.

Electric vehicle charging installation

Level 2 electric vehicle chargers will be installed at 13 sites to provide convenient access for residents who may have challenges charging at their home or work:

Community centers

  • Hagginwood
  • South Natomas
  • Oak Park
  • George Sim
  • Sam & Bonnie Pannell (under contract)
  • North Natomas Aquatic Center

Libraries

  • Del Paso
  • Colonial Heights (under contract)
  • Belle Cooledge (under contract)
  • Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Valley Hi/ North Laguna

Parks

  • Garcia Bend
  • Tahoe Park

Car share access

The City is working in partnership with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) to expand the Our Community Car Share Program beginning with a hub at the Colonial Heights Library. Income-qualified residents near the library will be able to reserve an electric vehicle for personal errands at an affordable rate. The goal is to enhance mobility for households with limited options as well as to introduce residents to the benefits and ease of driving electric.

Electric tricycle lending program

Through a collaboration with the Sacramento Public Library, an electric tricycle (eTrike) lending program was launched in August 2023 at the Colonial Heights Branch. Library patrons at least 18 years old with a valid library card are able to check-out an electric tricycle with cargo capacity for personal use at no charge for 1 week. The goal is to introduce the community to electric-assisted cycling as an alternative for short local trips. Stay tuned for additional locations coming soon. Five eTrikes have been deployed at the Colonial Heights Branch with five additional eTrikes arriving this Spring. Lockers for five eTrikes have been installed at the Belle Coolidge Branch in anticipation of a winter launch as well.

Equity monitoring

There will be an equity analysis on the City of Sacramento’s Electric Vehicle Blueprint Strategy. We would like to hear community input on electric vehicles to create equity metrics and goals. These metrics and goals will be used to evaluate the EV Blueprint projects on key indicators of equity.
