Traffic Enforcement

Daytime traffic enforcement team

The Daytime Traffic Enforcement Team is comprised of six full-time officers and one sergeant.

The primary focus of the Day Motors is enforcement of traffic laws throughout the city with a focus on the areas of the city with the highest collision rates.

Nighttime traffic enforcement team

The Nighttime Traffic Enforcement Team is comprised of five full-time officers and one sergeant.

The primary focus of the Night Motors, like Day Motors, is enforcement of traffic laws throughout the city with a focus on areas within city limits that have high collision rates. Additionally, the Night Motorsspearheadsideshows as well as DUI enforcement.

Traffic enforcement requests and neighborhood complaints

Please call us at 916-808-3777 if you would like to submit a general complaint  or request regarding traffic enforcement specific to your neighborhood.

Please be prepared to provide a brief summary of your traffic concerns as well as some detailed information, including:

  • What the concern is. Examples include: speeding, running stop signs, reckless driving, etc
  • Where in the City the concern occurs
  • What time(s) of day the concern generally occurs 
  • Your name and phone number

You may or may not receive a phone call back in order to obtain additional information regarding your complaint or other questions.  All concerns will be documented, and forwarded to the Traffic Supervisor.

Road signs and markings

For concerns related to the implemention or repair of stop signs, pedestrian hybrid beacons, speedbumps, road markings, etc., please direct your complaints or questions to the Department ofTransportation

The Signal and Lighting Maintenance and the Signs and Markings Maintenance are the sections in the division responsible for maintaining the field infrastructure used on our 3,000 miles of roadway to insure safe operation for roadway users.

Citation Corrections

If you received a citation for a correctable mechanical violation (also known as a "fix-it-ticket"), after you have resolved the issue, you can get your ticket signed off by coming to the front counter at the Sacramento Police Department Headquarters located at: 5770 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822. The public counter is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except on City-observed holidays

Towing Vehicles and Tow Hearings FAQs

  • You need to be the registered owner (R/O) to retrieve the vehicle.
  • If you are not the R/O, you need to provide documentation such as the bill of sale and/or release of liability to have a tow hearing or to release the vehicle.
  • If you received a "Notice of Stored Vehicle," but no longer own the vehicle, you must file a Release of Liability form and submit it to the DMV.
  • Was your vehicle towed by Code Enforcement, then you need to call 916-808-5473
