Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU)
The MCIU team is comprised of five highly trained detectives.
These investigators are responsible for documenting, investigating, analyzing, and reconstructing fatal vehicle collisions that occur in the City of Sacramento. Additional responsibilities include investigating hit and run collisions, vehicle pursuits, DUIs, writing and serving warrants, vehicle disassembly and inspections, tow hearings, expert courtroom testimony, and more.

Information on requesting a copy of a collision report
Who are reports releasable to?
In accordance with California Vehicle Code (CVC) § 20012, a copy of a collision report may be provided to:
- an involved driver(s) of the vehicle(s) in the collision
- The employer or guardian or conservator for the driver(s)
- The parent of a minor driver
- The authorized rep of a driver
- Any named person injured in the accident
- The owners of vehicle(s) or property damaged by the accident
- Persons who may incur civil liability, including liability based upon a breach of warranty arising out of the accident, and
- Any attorney who declares under penalty of perjury that he or she represents any of the above persons.
