Streamline Sacramento: Concrete Progress

Streamline Sacramento Update

At its heart, Streamline Sacramento fuels Sacramento's growth by cutting red tape, speeding up approvals, and lowering costs – making it easier for local businesses to thrive and for developers to build more housing faster.

Led by Mayor McCarty and Councilmember Pluckebaum, Streamline Sacramento enables the City to achieve more with less. We overcame a $62.2M budget deficit this July while protecting essential services – parks, youth, police, and fire – and avoiding employee layoffs. This year's budget win is only a first step. Next year, we face a $60M deficit. To balance our budget long-term, we must grow our economy to increase revenue. Streamline Sacramento is a smart application of the resources we have and, by supporting businesses and housing, an investment in the future of our city. 

Since April, Streamline Sacramento has delivered more than 25 improvements to the City’s permitting process, each one helping to build a stronger economy and a more vibrant community. Here are a few highlights:

  • Open for you, five days a week: The City's public counter is now open every weekday, helping customers get answers and services faster.
  • More help for small businesses: The Small Business Liaison Program now provides hands-on support for business owners working on building permits or tenant improvements. Additionally, the Small Business Building Permit webpage now features new tools and checklists specifically designed for restaurants and tenant projects.
  • Faster, smarter online tools: We’re making it easier to get things done from anywhere. SacGPT, your new AI-powered virtual assistant, helps you quickly find information and resources on the City’s website.  VuSpex lets you complete minor permits and inspections online, saving time and site visits.

Streamline Sacramento is just getting started. These improvements help businesses grow, housing get built, and our local economy thrive.
