Pupperoni’s story is a special one! He wasn’t originally scheduled for a sleepover, but when some cancellations opened up, we decided to give him a chance to shine outside the shelter.

We posted him on our Doggie Day Out Instagram, and sure enough, a wonderful family reached out to take him home for a Pups & PJs sleepover. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love—by the very next morning, they let us know they wanted to adopt him! Now, Pupperoni is officially part of their family and is fitting in perfectly.

Happy tails, Pupperoni!

On July 2nd, 2025, I did my first Doggie Day Out—and that’s the day I met Belicia. We spent the day exploring parks, walking, playing in the water, sharing pup cups, and napping together. From the very beginning, it was hard to bring her back to the shelter.

Just two days later, on July 4th, she came over again for a Pups & PJs sleepover. We had another amazing day, and that night we fell asleep cuddled up together. There was something about her I couldn’t explain—but I felt it deeply.

Fostering her was the next natural step, and it confirmed what my heart already knew: I was meant to adopt her. She’s a sweet soul through and through—part fish and part T-Rex and a little wild explorer with big energy and an even bigger heart.

She’s goofy, curious, affectionate, and the perfect companion for every adventure Belicia keeps growing and making progress every single day, and I feel honored to walk alongside her as she becomes her best self. Now in her forever home. Right where she belongs.

Whiskey’s adventure started with a simple Doggie Day Out, but it quickly turned into so much more. His outing turned into a sleepover, and by the very next step, FOREVER!

Now, Whiskey is loving life with his forever family and his brand-new sister. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy as he starts his next chapter filled with love, play, and companionship.

Cheers to Whiskey and his happy ending!

Raider was adopted after his Pups & Pjs sleepover! A week before his adoption, he was taken out on a sleepover through our Pups & PJs program and had an amazing time, doing well with kids and around other animals and snuggling in for a good nights sleep!

He was brought back and put back up for adoption after his sleepover and was avaialble for another week. His person could not stop thinking about him and came back the following weekend to finalize the adoption! It's the perfect ending for them both.

Sweet Finn was adopted thanks to his incredible Doggie Day Out. His outing buddy submitted the most amazing notes from their Wednesday adventure, and with a little teamwork (and a sprinkle of AI magic ), we turned them into a bio that captured Finn’s awesome personality.

A family read his bio on their way home, and it was so compelling they made a detour straight to the shelter… And adopted him on the spot!

Huge shoutout to the amazing Doggie Day Out participant who spent the day with Finn. You made a life-changing difference. Finn is off to his forever home, and we couldn’t be happier!

A staff member from the City of Sacramento’s Community Development Department (CDD) visited our shelter and decided to take one of our pups, sweet Jazz, on a Doggie Day Out adventure. What started as a fun day trip turned into a life-changing moment. Jazz met her future adopter during her last potty break of the day!

He was so smitten that he headed straight to the shelter before 5:00 pm to make the adoption official! Our CDD participant shared that the experience was not only a joy, but a great way to connect with other staff members at her work site. She mentioned that seeing Jazz made everyone’s day! A win-win for everyone — especially Jazz!
