At the current rate, getting our unhoused neighbors off Sacramento streets and into permanent supportive housing would take 125 years. This is unacceptable.
The system is broken. We must reevaluate and find how to serve more people efficiently and effectively.
From 2020 to 2024, the number of beds and tiny homes at our shelter sites increased by 1,375, with another 400 coming online in 2025. This is the beginning of a positive trend; we must keep going.
Our plan includes more tiny homes and micro-community sites to serve seniors. Seniors aged 55+ make up 22% of the homeless community. We cannot leave our most vulnerable and fastest-growing homeless population languishing in emergency shelters or on our streets for years.
These micro-communities are only a start. We will continue to learn from best practices in other cities and seek out and apply innovative solutions.
