Protect your pets during the 4th of July

Don't let your pet end up here on July 5th

This single evening leads to one of the highest intake days of strays at our shelter all year

July 4th celebrations can be terrifying for pets. Fireworks and unexpected activity can cause even the calmest pets to panic and run. With the holiday quickly approaching, now is the time to get prepared:

* Ensure your pet has visible ID tags
* Check that their microchip information is up-to-date
* Refill any anxiety medications  prescribed by your vet

We strongly encourage pet owners to bring your pets inside well before nightfall during the holiday period. Use white noise or calming music to keep them happier indoors. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your pets safe and sound.

If you receive an urgent call from anyone claiming to be staff from a Sacramento-area animal shelter (even if it looks legitimate on your caller ID) and they are demanding you pay them money over the phone or via test to reclaim your injured pet, immediately hang up and call your local shelter directly.
