Which Languages can the City Provide Services in?
Sacramentans speak almost 50 different languages. Nearly 39% of residents (197,902 people) in the City of Sacramento speak a language other than English at home. More than 84,577 (16.7%) people in the City speak English less than very well i.e. have Limited English Proficiency (LEP). (1)
The City of Sacramento can provide assistance in multiple languages, including the top LEP languages in the City of Sacramento: Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Hmong, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Punjabi, Russian, Persian (Dari, Farsi), Hindi, and many others.

Services offered through the Language Access Program
You can get free assistance in your preferred language when accessing City Government services, including:
- Interpretation during City-hosted meetings and events (except Appeals hearings)
- Translation of written materials such as forms, brochures, and public notices
"I Speak" Program
The City’s “I Speak” campaign will help residents with limited English proficiency to let staff know in what language they need interpretation.

Request Language Access Services
Document Translation and Interpretation Services
- Fill out the request form below to request translation of a document or to request an interpreter at an upcoming City meeting or event.
- For interpretation of spoken languages, please submit your request at least 5-6 business days in advance.
- For American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation requests, please submit your request 11-12 business days (for in-person interpretation) and 6-7 business days in advance (for virtual interpretation).
