Effective May 1, 2025, new program eligibility requirements for this program will go into effect. Please read all details below.

Renewal periods are every March and September for the entire duration of those months. Please renew online or in the Revenue Division.

Program details

The Discounted Employee Parking Program (DEPP) offers low rates at participating City garages to eligible employees who work in the downtown area.

Eligible employees are those whose places of employment are located within the area within E Street to the north, R Street to the south, 21st Street to the east, and the Sacramento River to the west.

Due to these low rates, participants are required to renew their permits every March and September to verify employment to maintain eligibility under this program. As program participation is limited at each garage, failure to renew during any renewal period will result in termination from the program. Any reminder notices posted at the garages are out of courtesy and lack thereof does not relieve participants of the requirement to renew.

View the details of each program to determine eligiblity. The rates are what the permit holder pays per half hour.

Current garage rates without a discount are $1.50 per half hour. Garage rates are subject to change.

Effective May 1, 2025, the Part-Time Employee Parking (P-TEP) program will discontinue to remove the minimum work hours requirement to qualify for a discount.

The Discounted Employee Parking Program (DEPP) will convert to a three-tier system based on earnings. Permits must be still  be renewed every September and March to retain the discount.

Changes to the program

Why did the program change?

Due to general wage increases and operational hours amongst employers in the downtown area, there is a greater need to support employees who work varying shift times and hours.

What major changes should I be aware of?

  • PTEP is discontinued because it was based on the number of hours worked.
  • DEPP was revised to a three-tiered system to accommodate a wider range of wages.
  • Permit limits at all City garages were increased to accommodate more participants. However, as there is still a limit to the number of permits issued at each garage, application acceptance is subject to garage availability.
  • Old Sacramento Garage is limited to employees who work within the Old Sacramento District.

What happens to current P-TEP participants?

Current P-TEP participant accounts will continue to receive the $0.50 rate at their assigned garage.

However, submission of a new DEPP application will be required during the September 2025 renewal period to continue receiving this discount.

During the next renewal period, current P-TEP participants will be re-evaluated to determine which DEPP tier they will be assigned to.

What happens next renewal period?

All DEPP and P-TEP participant accounts will continue to receive their discounted rates until the next renewal period in September 2025.

However, all DEPP and PTEP participants who wish to continue receiving their discounts must submit a new DEPP application during the September 2025 renewal period. Participants who do not renew will lose their discount.

All participant wages will be re-evaluated during the renewal period for placement into the appropriate program tier.

Why was I denied for Old Sacramento Garage?

Due to space availability, the high volume of use at this garage, and the need to support the Old Sacramento District, the DEPP discount is limited to employees who work within the District.
