Access Leisure Youth & Teens

Our goal is to provide safe, fun and inclusive community programs, social programs and inclusion support for youth and teens with disabilities. A variety of youth and teen programming occurs year round from Teen Program, Inclusive Playdates, Camps, Community outings and so much more! Below is information on current programs, upcoming activities/events and how to register for those activities.

Current programming

Join us for our after school social recreation program developed for teens with disabilities (ages 13 - 22)! The Hangout is a free program where teens create connections with peers and community, learn personal and life skills/goals, practice positive interactions, create and have fun! A range of activities are to be experienced such as games, art, body movement, positive mental health habits, movie nights etc.

Teen Day Out

Come out and hang! Teen Night Out is a monthly opportunity for teens with disabilities to explore the community and have fun with peers. A variety of places we will go include going to dinner, movies, bowling, zoo, paint and sip etc.

Inclusive Playdates

Inclusive Playdates are BACK! Access Leisure invites youth of all abilities and their family for positive play with peers at the Southside Park accessible playground. We have additional activities that include crafts, games and local organizations to offer activities & information about their services.

RCIF Baseball Spring and Summer

River Cats Independence Field is a fully-accessible baseball field made of a rubberized surface ideal for players with disabilities that use manual or power wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, or no assistive devices, to "Play Ball!" Come out and get a jersey and hat, and have fun with friends and family. This program is for children, youth and adults with either physical or intellectual disabilities.

Sensory Swim

Join us in having some sensory friendly summer time fun at our Sensory Swim program! Once a week, we will open the pool for youth with disabilities and different sensory needs to enjoy the pool with their family. The first half of the swim time will be a quiet swim and the second half will be full of music, splash pad, games and more! Lifeguards will be in attendance as well as Access Leisure staff who can support youth needs. The purpose of Sensory Swim to have youth enjoy pool time and water play without the stress of a packed public pool. We ask that youth be with a parent or guardian when swimming and to keep the family invite to a minimum to allow for youth to enjoy the pool with peers. (note: this is NOT a swim lesson program)

Teen Aqua Aerobics

Get your water movement on! Join us for our aqua aerobics series for teens with disabilities ages 13 - 22 once a month starting June 23rd. We will be moving and grooving to music in the water while we participate in some strength training and exercises and light cardio. After aqua aerobics, we allow time for social swimming in which teens can hangout with their friends and swim around the pool. Lifeguards will be in attendance and Access Leisure will be instructing the aqua aerobics as well as offering support in the pool.

ART-TISM Summer Series

What's better than making fun sensory art?! ART-TISM is a five week art series program during the summer for youth with Autism taught by Valene Byrd and supported by Access Leisure. Valene leads youth on the spectrum through art activities and encourages them to be as creative and free with the project as they want to be. ART-TISM is a space and opportunity for those to come as they are and express themselves how they want to through sensory art activities.

  • Dates: Every Thursday July 18th - August 15th 
  • Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
