The City of Sacramento is expanding broadband internet access to over 4,000 residential units in underserved neighborhoods through the installation of essential fiber optic infrastructure. Aligned with the City’s Digital Strategy, this project aims to bridge the digital divide and deliver equitable, high-speed internet access, supporting economic opportunity, social inclusion, and public safety. Funded by CPUC grants and federal/state programs, the project will roll out in phases starting summer 2025, with focused outreach to property owners and residents to ensure successful implementation.
The California Public Utilities Commission has funded broadband in underserved communities primarily to bridge the digital divide—the gap between those who have reliable internet access and those who do not. Here are specific reasons for this investment:
We have divided this project into three phases: Design, Construction, Residential Connection. Property owners and tenants will be contacted as part of the process.
