City Department of Utilities staff on May 31 are inviting customers to “Water Discovery Day,” an event designed to help people learn about how the City collects, treats and distributes drinking water.

The event will feature tours of the City’s Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant as well as booths with information on how the department operates.

Up to 225 people can register for the tours, which will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon.

Each tour lasts about 40 minutes and will educate attendees on several stages of the water treatment process.

Registration

Registration is now available on the Eventbrite page below.

Individual registration is required  for all attendees.

What to expect

During this event, attendees can learn about our City’s water supply system and how the Department of Utilities operates.

A water supply system is the infrastructure for the collection, transmission, treatment, storage, and distribution of water for homes, commercial establishments, industry, and irrigation.

The system is also used during times of public need, such as for firefighting.

This event will feature:

  • A guided tour of the Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant
  • Interactive informational booths
  • Utilities equipment demonstrations

Tours are on foot and include several sets of stairs. A modified tour is available for attendees with access needs.

The Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant tour is in full sun.

Attendees are encouraged to be prepared for warm weather, including wearing hats, sunscreen and bringing water.

Closed-toed shoes and long pants are required for all participants; those without appropriate attire will not be allowed on-site.
