Information Security Office

Background and mission statement

As a public entity, we have a fiduciary duty to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of our citizen’s data. Nowadays, information security faces unprecedented challenges coming from a diverse number of threat actors. Attacks are becoming more sophisticated and more common, testing the limits of existing security defenses. Moreover, the push to digitize exacerbates the challenges of information security by expanding the amount of sensitive data that is available to the public and must be protected. The ubiquity of these threats means information security programs must quickly develop cutting-edge threat intelligence competencies while also improving response plans for the worst-case scenarios.

The Information Security Office’s mission is to provide value to the City of Sacramento by managing the risks to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of City information assets through sound administrative, physical, and technical controls.
