Swim Lesson Levels

Aquatots for ages 6 months to 3 years old

(Formerly Parent & Me) This class, for children and a supervising adult, focuses on water adjustment, pool safe skills and fun! Join us for a class that teaches supervising adults proper holds, the fundamentals of water safety skills, and builds a base for enjoyment in the pool.

Preschool Level 1 for ages 3, 4, & 5

This is an introductory swim lesson level that focuses on water comfort and foundational swimming skills. Swimmers will be taught to submerge their face in water, float on both their front and back with a flotation aid, and work on breath control.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to follow direction of swim instructor and sit independently on the edge of the pool. No other swim skills are required to take this class.

Preschool Level 2 for ages 3, 4, & 5

Level 2 is geared toward swimmers who are comfortable in the water. This level focuses on fundamental swimming skills such as floating independently and gaining the ability to swim on the front and back.

Prerequisites:

  • Demonstrate breath control by taking a breath, submerging face under water, coming up for air, taking another breath and repeating 5 times. This skill is called ‘bobbing’.
  • Float on front with assistance for 10 seconds. Face must be submerged in the water.
  • Float on back with assistance for 10 seconds. Ears must be submerged in water.

Level 1 for ages 6-12

Level 2 for ages 6-12

Level 2 is geared toward new swimmers who are comfortable in the water. This level focuses on rudimentary swimming skills such as floating independently and working on gaining the ability to swim on their front and back.

Prerequisites:

  • Float on front with assistance for 10 seconds. Face must be submerged in the water.

Level 3 for ages 3-12

Level 3 focuses on teaching swimmers the mechanics of front crawl, backstroke, and elementary backstroke arms. Swimmers must already know how to swim on their front and back before enrolling in this level.

Prerequisites:

  • Swim independently on their front using any kind of arm and kicking action to propel themselves 5 yards.
  • Swim independently on their back using any kind of arm and kicking action to propel themselves 5 yards.
  • Float on their front independently for 10 seconds. Face must be submerged in the water.
  • Float on their back independently for 10 seconds. Ears must be submerged in water.
  • Tread water independently for 10 seconds.

Level 4 for ages 6-12

Level 4 focuses on increasing endurance and refining the technique of children who can already swim front crawl, backstroke, and the arm action for elementary backstroke. Additionally, breaststroke kick and elementary backstroke with whip kick are taught in this level.

Prerequisites:

  • Swim 15 yards front crawl independently with their face in the water. Any breathing pattern acceptable.
  • Swim 15 yards elementary backstroke independently.
  • Tread water independently for 30 seconds.

Intro to Competitive Swimming for ages 6-17

This level is for the aspiring competitive swimmer. With a focus on endurance and swimming longer distances for the competitive strokes, this level is designed to get swimmers ready to participate on swim team. Students will learn about practice sets, racing, starts and turns.

Prerequisites:

  • Swim 25 yards of front crawl independently, using rotary breathing.
  • Swim 15 yards of backstroke independently.
  • Swim 15 yards of breaststroke independently.
  • Demonstrate open turns on the front and back.
  • Dolphin kick for 15 yards.

Teen - ages 13-17

This level teaches basic swimming skills for teens and is appropriate for students that have little to no swimming experience. This class will work on being comfortable in the water, breath control, floating and swimming independently.

Prerequisites:

  • No swimming skills are required.

Adult - ages 18+ & Teen/Adult - ages 13+

This level teaches basic swimming skills and is appropriate for students that have little to no swimming experience. This class will work on being comfortable in the water, breath control, floating and swimming independently.
